Punkva (Punkevní) Caves
From the magical world of the abyss to the mysterious waters

Opening hours 30.5.2025:08:20-16:00
The Punkva (Punkevní) Caves can be found in the Canyon of Pustý Žleb, about 1 km far from the Skalní mlýn Information Center. The caves were discovered in stages in the years 1909–1933 by Professor Absolon’s group of speleologists. The visitors walk through mighty underground spaces and passages decorated with stalactites and stalagmites, as far as the bottom of the world-famous Macocha (=Step Mother) Abyss. The abyss is 138,7 m deep, with fascinating ground dimensions: 174 by 76 m. The foot walk is followed by a motor boat ride along the underground river Punkva. The ride includes the visit of the Masaryk´s Dome, one of the most beautiful caves of the Moravian Karst. The Punkva Caves are an extension of the longest cave system in the Czech Republic, the Amateur´s Cave, whose passages are over 35 km long.
The tour is with a guide. In the summer season and all year round on weekends, we recommend pre-booking your entry through the info center at Skalní Mlýn!
Directions

You can park your car or bus in paid parking lots at Skalní mlýn (daily) or near the Macocha abyss (XI-III: SA-SU, IV-X: daily). From Skalní mlýn, you can either walk 1.6 km on a level road, or take the road train from the Macocha abyss by cable car or walk 1.7 km with an elevation gain of 130 m.
In winter, we recommend using the parking lot at Skalní mlýn (the cable car is usually out of service during this period).
Punk caves are not barrier-free. Wheelchair users can visit the dry parts of the Punkva Caves. But for technical reasons, this is only possible on the first or last tour of the day, and reservations and conditions must be agreed with the cave dispatch in advance. A tour with baby carriages is not possible at all.

Bike racks are by the entrance building. The Cave Administration is not responsible for left bikes.
Bus stop Blansko, Skalní mlýn and then road train, or 1.6 km on foot; the nearest train is Blansko (7.5 km).
